Obviously bike thefts are low priority for NHPD, but where your police report and serial number may come in handy is if and when they round up stolen bikes, which they do on occasion. It's a good idea to check in with Lt. Sharp, the NHPD District Manager for East Rock, too.

Meanwhile, if you have renter's or homeowner's insurance, you may want to make a claim. Sorry I can't offer more suggestions.

Bike's are usually sold quickly for $20. , sometimes kept for themselves.
-Homeless folk own some nice bicycles , way out of their price range.
- A while back i saw an ad on Craigslist by a guy selling bikes and bike parts in New Haven.
There were pictures of a basement with bikes everywhere

Landlord didn't take the bikes; we have a good relationship and the U-Locks were left cut on the ground. Any chance you can link me to the Craigslist ad you mentioned? Not sure what I should do at this point other than keep my eyes open around the city. Thanks.

Sorry about that. You're a member of a large club in New Haven. We've had one vintage bike stolen and attempts on 2 others. Aka discouraging to hear about the kryptonite locks; thought they were nearly thief proof. Did the lock have the really thick U or the thinner one?

It had a moderately thick U. Attached is a picture of the broken lock. I think the thief used a bolt cutter.

Thefts in East Rock are not limited to bikes; several have reported packages stolen from their front doors, cars broken into in driveways. It is pretty obvious that the neighborhood needs patrolling.

I just spotted a homeless or some type of person carrying a pretty strong looking hack saw , a black n decker yellow "power" hand held hack saw - I know with dogged determination a few more minutes it will cut through a u-lock (especially the one in pic)
2. A homeless guy is riding a red Panasonic at Starbucks.
-Any consolation , another local thief has smoked up the proceeds of a sale and completely flipped out over plastic flowers etc..
