Start coming up with solutions Oakland. You've let the homeless run this city way to long. They know exactly what they r doing, while costing millions to clean them up. They don't want housing so find a huge lot away from neighborhoods, set up washrooms and let them camp. Just because most of us don't live in Piedmont or Montclair doesn't mean we should have to put up with the homeless mess.
I agree with simplyblu on the need for approved homeless camps. But I want to emphasize that any approved camp needs to be near downtown Oakland, or the homeless will not use it. We need a huge lot, porta potties, and drinking water. Laundry and shower facilities should be available nearby, possibly at the downtown homeless shelters. I have no problem with homeless people camping on freeway rights-of-way, in general.
Excellent idea! MUCH better for social workers and advocates to be able to meet with clients in in a portable building on site. Portable building could surely be put up for less than the $158K Oakland plans to waste buying PredPol (to predict crimes which OPD STILL can't solve).
Thank you for contacting the Department of Public Works regarding this matter. However, additional information is needed before your request can be processed. The address, John B. Williams Freeway, is not a good address. The map on your request seems to mark either the 980 freeway or the freeway on ramp. Please verify if the homeless encampment is on freeway property. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
