Description
The bicycle shared-lane (sharrow) markings on Emery Street between Park Ave and Emery Street in each direction are spaced too far apart. From the sharrow at the start of the block to the one at the end is about 340 feet, but the federal and state MUTCD recommend spacing of no more than 250 feet between sharrows. The Oakland standard for sharrow spacing is even tighter, with the first one striped 20 feet from the intersection, and then after that at intervals of 150 to 200 feet: http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca/groups/pwa/documents/report/oak025115.pdf
As such, at least one additional sharrow marking should be striped toward the center of this block in each direction, using either standard.

Additionally, the Transportation Committee and Public Works Committee meetings are conducted on the third Thursday of every month at the Emeryville City Hall building (1333 Park Ave.) at 9:00 AM. The meetings are open to the public. These Committee meetings are the appropriate forum to convey concerns with transportation and traffic items. I do attend Emeryville BPAC meetings and have brought up this issue with no resolution yet. My hope with reporting the issue via SeeClickFix was that it would be forwarded to the relevant city staff transportation engineer, which is what most other East Bay cities which follow SeeClickFix issues typically do. Typically an issue is only closed once it is actually addressed, or once it is determined to be an invalid report.
Asking an individual who has already taken the time to make an issue known to re-voice their concern in a separate venue, especially an in-person meeting, makes an online reporting system rather pointless. SeeClickFix is valuable because it allows the city to receive a lot more input than committee meetings ever will, but if the city does not take advantage of this input then it is missing out on many valuable opportunities.
