The City experienced an extreme storm event last Friday and then again Monday which had over 60 mm of water. The outfall structure to the creek downstream from Richmond Industrial Park, east of 108 St. and 89 Ave., had partially failed last fall and was not able to convey the volume of water experienced. The City has taken steps to maintain flow temporarily at this location. Repair of the structure was awarded in the spring and is scheduled to be replaced this fall. The City has approved the capital budget to construct two storm detention ponds for the Richmond Industrial district, one in 2016 and one in 2017. However, it should be noted that roads form part of the City’s storm management system and are expected to flood temporally during storm events. Once these improvements are completed the frequency, volume and length of time ponding occurs at 108 St. and 89 Ave. will reduce. In the meantime, Maintenance has been working on clearing out the current system so that this type of flooding doesn't occur again.
