The multi-million dollar playing field complex is a disgrace.
The grass is dead!!!! The turf field has never been serviced. Equipment to service the fields is sitting in the corner of the synthetic field.
This complex was built with our tax dollars(CPC).
The TON should hire a private contractor to maintain this facility if the DPW (or is it the Community School) can't or will not do what is required.
Many teams and guests that were visiting today had many questions and concerns.
The grass fields are Dead!!!!
This multi-million dollar complex needs immediate action.
Our tax dollars (CPC) funded this playing field complex in its entirety.
The TON needs to hire a private contractor if the DPW (or is it the Community School) can't manage this valuable asset.
Also the synthetic turf has never been serviced. Equipment purchased to clean and brush the turf is sitting in the corner unused.
The grass isn't dead. The irrigation is being attended to be an on-island irrigation vendor.
This is a comment we got from a family from off-island who was participating in soccer this past week-end:
"Greetings,
I was on the island Saturday for a youth soccer match (Falmouth v Nantucket u8). What a nice facility Nantucket has for youth soccer."
Yes, the facility is nice, but it isn't being maintained, and will soon fall into a state of disrepair. The grass is in fact dying and not growing. The irrigation has been out for over 4+ weeks. It need to be fixed immediately.
It will take more than water/irrigation to salvage these fields.
The same contractor that built Miacomet Golf Course built the Nobadeer Playing Fields.
The fairways at the golf course are green plush and are mowed regularly.
No need to mow at Nobadeer only weeds!!!!
Not an accurate comparison. They have a full time groundskeeping staff as well as a head groundskeeper and a significantly higher budget. To play on their "fields" costs significantly more than playing on the Nobadeer fields.
What is important to note on this issue dates back to 2005. The Land Bank with approval from the state office of Executive Office of Environmental Affairs "would provide the land and the Parks & Recreation Commission would build and maintain the fields." Key word is MAINTAIN.
