Description
This is an interesting intersection, with a one-way street crossing a two-way that turns into a one-way. There is no pedestrian signal, even though it is in the heart of downtown and sees quite a bit of foot traffic.

I will support this issue every time it gets reported. It makes no sense that there is no pedestrian signal here.

Fixing this would be another way for New Haven to move toward a more pedestrian-friendly downtown.
There are several other intersections like this, namely College & Crown (right in front of Co-op High, where several serious injuries and hospitalizations have taken place) and Park & Chapel (same).

as this picture shows, it is impossible to legally and safely cross elm/orange on three sides of the intersection AT ALL TIMES. this means people are forced to 'jaywalk' and dart through traffic unless they just so happen to be on the right side of this intersection crossing elm. there is never a time where someone can cross over elm from the left side, or orange at all, without cars officially having the right of way. this woman shown could technically be given a ticket, or be run down by a car, and it would be "her fault".
it is utterly embarrassing that this intersection is the closest one to the department of traffic and parking.
our city needs to do better than this.

why is there no response?
on three sides of this street, people endanger their lives every day.

This is pretty crazy. Drivers along Wall Street also feel like they always have the right of way, even when they don't, since there are no signs.
