Description

It took me approx 25 minutes yesterday to travel from Prospect and Sachem to the corner of Goffe and Sherman, a distance of 1.2 miles. Traffic was backed up halfway down the block between Edwards and Sachem, and the light at Edwards and Prospect was timed to let 3-4 cars pass. I waited for approx. 4 light changes to get through that one. Then I waited at the light a short block away on Hillside and Prospect through 2 lights before making a left, as oncoming traffic always seems to block the intersection and the green turning arrow comes at the beginning of the light change rather than at the end.

Then, despite going the posted speed limit, I sat at red lights on Winchester Avenue (a long light plus a pedestrian walk light despite no pedestrians), Dixwell Avenue, Orchard Street, Sherman Parkway, and after making a left there, hit the red light on Sherman and Goffe.

This is a heavily trafficked commuter route with very poor timing of traffic lights. There must be a way to properly time these lights for better ease of traffic flow.
