Description
Twice each day, my family & neighbors are disturbed by the VERY LOUD muffler/exhaust system of our neighbor's car. This nusiance noise is much more signifcant than the radio noise that the City Council felt obliged to make an noise ordinace for.
Why does the city not have a noise ordinance in regard to this and MANY other loud vehicles on the road? I understand that this may be covered at the state level, but I would like to know why the local government has not dealt with this issue.
Please advise as to who I can contact in re: to this disturbing issue. Thank you.

We are a small, southern city. There are many preconceived notions, prejudices, and attitudes we must fight against to be considered a truly forward-moving, up-and-coming city that businesses, talent, families, and individuals want to live.
Why would City government continue to ignore this? Are we afraid to go up against the VERY FEW, YOUNG men with an ordinance?
Does the City of Huntsville realize how hypocritical, ignorant, & possibly discriminatory it seems when it passes an noise ordinance re: car MUSIC (and spends the $$$ to post ridiculous signs re: the $500 fine), but allows the CONTINUED BLASTING and disturbing of the peace that mufflers cause?
This disregard of our local government to NOT address a serious NOISE problem effects how we are perceived by visitors, residents, and businesses.
Would this be allowed in other forward-thinking cities? Google it & see the list of cities---Absolutely not.
Time to realize these type of things put us on the "Hick Town List", Huntsville. Stand up for REAL quality of life issues: Stop the Nuisance NOISE.

Officers went by the listed location to check on this complaint. We were unable to locate any vehicles in the area with a loud exhaust causing a nuisance.
We do have an ordinance (Sec. 12-293) that covers vehicle exhaust noise. However, we do not have the equipment readily available for officers to test vehicles for this violation. It then falls back to the state law AL 32-5-216 for enforcement.

We do not have the equipment. It would be handled by the State. If you wish to take out warrant, what you could do is next time it is happening, get evidence/ video then call 256-722-7100 to have an officer come out and make you a case report. Then make an appt. with the magistrate.
For the officers to write him, they would have to be there at the time and witness it themselves before they could issue a citation.
