They won't get on the ball unless someone makes them. I guess it's human nature to want to put in the least effort and try to get the maximum benefit... this results in coming in late, leaving early and doing as little as possible. Just complaining here isn't going to do it.
You can call the mayor's office and ask her how proud she can be that the first sight people see of New Haven is actually in the rest room after their trip. Welcome to Mayor Harp's New Haven!
I don't think it's fair or correct to categorize the people they have working there as "slackers." And "it's human nature to want to put in the least effort to try to get the maximum benefit"? Really? Is that your personal motto?
How often do you use these bathrooms? I've been commuting through Union for 9 years now and the bathrooms are in clean shape every evening when I stop in there. It really depends on when you use them, though. Yes they're old and could use remodeling and it would be great if they increased the number of stalls in the women's room, but they are clean. One major obstacle to keeping them clean are the steady stream of users who trash and deface them. One day the fresh marker graffiti will be scrubbed to fading on the stall door and the next day more will have taken its place. All kinds of absurd things are flushed down the toilets and it appears as though some users have never used a modern restroom before. How do you combat that? You can't possibly expect an attendant to clean a stall after every single person uses it, can you? The major problem here is certainly not the cleaning crew.
FairHavenRes, everybody has their own opinions, and you have yours, too... but it is human nature to want to put in the least effort to try to get the maximum benefit, and I'll bet you do that too.
The experience you are having is not the experience we all are having. They are not clean all the time. you are right about the steady stream of users, but that's normal for train stations and needs to be considered when planning maintenance.. many stations have a person who is in the ladies' room all the time, helping people, and making sure there is enough of everything, while keeping the area clean. Yes, these employees clean a stall whenever it needs it.
Guest, no bathroom is clean all the time; I'll definitely agree with you on that. I think my main concern is the characterization that the people cleaning the bathrooms are slackers who come in late, leave early, and do the least amount of work possible; it's really unfortunate to see such a false and generic characterization of a group of people doing a very thankless job. There are lots of issues with the bathrooms and it would be great if they could be remodeled to include enough space for an attendant during peak use times. Hopefully this is on the list of improvements for the station; they've made some great changes lately but not to the bathrooms yet.
If the bathrooms were being cleaned and sanitized properly, the smell of urine would not be so strong! The floors are always flooded....this is up to the attendant (standing in the door checking her phone) to keep up with!
I see this issue went completely silent when the renovations began at the train station :) Women's bathroom is next on the schedule (and men, please stop being lazy and using the women's; walk a few extra feet to your temporary bathroom instead!) Thanks!
