Description

The only place to cross Colchester Ave between India House and Winooski is at the baseball field. This crosswalk is very inadequate. One side leads into an entrance to a parking lot and not a sidewalk. Cars park very close to the crosswalk on either side of the road and a lack of bump outs make a pedestrian need to step out from behind cars into the fast moving traffic. Traffic along here is consistently faster than the limit of 25mph. There is also poor lighting in here making the crossing especially harzardous at night. A person was hit at night here last year. This is a highly utilized crosswalk especially during the baseball season. This could use a pedestrian activation button for blinking signs similar to what is in front of Edmunds Elementary for a mid block crossing. Possibly relocate this crossing up or down the block a little bit for a more visible and proper crossing.
