Description
At the location of the fire hydrant and mail boxes for 19204 & 19206 18th Ave NE there has been a frequent gas-like smell (?natural gas/propane). This seems to coincide with work that was done in recent months in which the drainage ditch was dug out in a manner that restricts the natural flow of storm water. This ditch normally runs SOUTH and was dug out by a city worker (?) to facilitate flow to the NORTH. So, now water does not flow; it just seeps in/collects in the ditch.

Per Surface Water Tech: The ditch was designed to flow to the north. The inverts on the inlet and outlet pipe are not consistent with the intended flow direction. This may be due to settling or improper installation. The result of opening up the ditch should be improved conveyance of water, but the side effect will be a small amount of water ponding in the ditch after a rain. By all accounts the water infiltrates and does not pose a problem.
