Good morning,
We do not service pallets as part of bulky item collection. However, if the pallet was generated in the City of Virginia Beach from the primary residence and is delivered in a qualified, privately owned non-commercial vehicle, residents can take the waste to the Virginia Beach Landfill & Resource Recovery Center free of charge. Proof of Virginia Beach residency must be provided. The Landfill & Resource Recovery Center is located at 1989 Jake Sears Road, near Regent University off Centerville Turnpike. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Landfill personnel can be reached at 385-1980. If you have any questions, please call us at 385-4650.

What would a citizen without his own truck do to dispose of such items?

Good morning,
Bulky item pickup is designed for normal household items such as furniture, appliances, boxes, items you find around the house. Pallets are not considered household items. There are so many items that we do not collect, unfortunately, we cannot list every item on the website.
The Landfill Resource and Recovery Center will accept items from Virginia Beach residents only. Once collected, the boom operators dump their items at the Landstown Transfer Station, not the Landfill. The Landfill is not for commercial use. Resident can take their household items, hazardous materials, yard debris, and items not collected by bulky pickup to the Landfill free of charge.
I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact use with any questions at 757-385-4650.
