Description

I would like to report a serious Street Drainage Problem in the 900 block of Monroe Ave, The problem has been ongoing for years and nothing has been done to correct it. Over the years the problem has been brought to the attention of the city many times.

There is a high spot along the curb line that acts as a dam which does not allow the water to flow down the street to the storm drain as it should. When this occurs it backs up the water creating a pond running from 921 Monroe to 929 Monroe. In the area of 925/927 Monroe the water ponds as much as 3 to 4 feet out from the curb and is about 4 inches or more deep. When you park on the street in front of 925/927 Monroe you have to walk up the center of the street to 921 Monroe to be able to get to the sidewalk because of the standing water. This also has a effect on the city employees that pick up the garbage and recyclables, not to mention mail delivery and school children walking up the street to the school bus. They either get wet feet or slip and fall on the ice.

This problem is a Health and Safety concern! In the summer time the standing water/mud smells and is a place for mosquitoes to bred that may carry West Nile Virus. In the winter time it backs up and creates an ice pond along the curb, it also floods the sidewalk and freezes creating a hazard for anyone trying to walk up the street. Something needs to be done before someone gets hurt or sick from this problem!
