Description
Day is a one way street with minimal traffic. Does this intersection really need a stop light? Placing lights in unnecessary places is but one of the reasons that road rage in this city is so high. This intersection is one place where cross traffic can cross without a light. Please consider removing the light and inserting a stop sign on Day instead.

There is a pedestrian signal here. If the traffic signal were removed, the pedestrian signal would no longer exist. Is that being considered in the request? I don't often see folks requesting to remove pedestrian safety measures in the city but hey, I guess I haven't lived here long enough.

Before any action is taken, it would be good to talk to the organizations,businesses, and residents about pedestrian traffic.

The light is slow for traffic on Day St, but it is necessary. That is a blind turn so removing it would lead to an accident. The light just needs to allow traffic on Day St to turn more often...I'll sit there for a good 2-3 minutes before it turns green!

If its a pedestrian crossing, why does it change and make the Chapel traffic stop when
(a) there are no pedestrians in sight
(b) there is no oncoming traffic
Two blocks down there is a stoplight at the intersection of Chapel and Orchard, where the majority of pedestrians cross the street and a light for cars, bikes, and pedestrians is warranted.
Regarding the intersection at Day, which again is a one way local street with minimal housing and traffic, I think its appropriate to add that it IS possible to have a pedestrian crossing without a traffic light. In fact, there are several around town and further down on Chapel that do so without incident. For those, the pavement is adequately painted and there are center signs reminding drivers that it is the law to stop for pedestrians.
In regard to businesses, there are two vacant buildings and a park on the north side of the street.

Of course it's possible to have an unsignalized crosswalk but it's more likely to have vehicles stop for pedestrians if the crosswalk is signalized.
Additionally, if vehicles do not need to stop, there is a greater likelihood that speeds will increase if there is no signal to stop. I would imagine that if this signal was removed, people would then be upset about increased speeds on this segment of Chapel.
