As I walk by these structures with my my four year old, she says Pappa - these buildings look scary and she thinks monsters live in there and thats why no one takes care of them. She refuses to walk on that side of the street because she thinks that those old homes will fall down on her and her friends.

Hopefully the owners are not monsters and have the same sensibilty of a child who is concerned about her surroundings. Hopefully it is within their capacity to do the right thing for the better good. And hopefully someday soon my girl will say - Pappa - I love this neighborhood like she does when she sees that well tended garden.

WOak neighbor, we were told at the last WON meeting by the Code Enforcement city rep to post blight complaints here, and they will get routed appropriately.

I agree. We need property owners who care to maintain or develop in ways that contribute to the health and safety of Oakland.

Where's code enforcement? Nuisance Abatement? There are blighted property's all over Oakland. Yet some one files an SCF issue on a viable tax paying citizen or business and they get a letter from code enforcement ASAP!!!

David, the rep from the city (in Code Enforcement IIRC) said that these reports are the only practical way they find issues due to a very short staff. They don't drive the streets looking for them, which would be optimal, but far from possible.

It would seen that this may be owned by Dogtown Dev as of May last year. Their office is right next door, and these houses have been terrible the entire time. I know the City permitting process can be onerous and making capital available to start a project may not be available yet, but I am unwilling to give *anyone* a pass on not taking care of the basics, and especially for a developer that is right next door, and can't help but to see the ills of the property.

These buildings are in terrible condition, covered in graffiti, and a fire hazard!
