Description
Township of Kearny,
I'm writing you with a concern on Sandford Ave near the address of 231 and the Rail Road
bed.
Over the last few years the Old Rail Road Bed has been used to store Construction Material.
Soil, stone, sand, pipes, trucks back hoes, trailers etc.
At one time the tail along the Rail Road Bed was covered with stone and overtime the
trucks and equipment has pushed the stone into the soil. I
Now the problem is the mud, stone and trash all over the end of Sandford Ave due to the trucks and equipment accessing the Rail Road Bed from Sandford Ave. When it rains the conditions
are even worse, mud every were, street sidewalks, home owners driveways, it's an inch deep
at the curbs. It short time I'm sure it will clog the Storm Drains.
Also the dust blowing around when it's dry.
I don't mind them being there but they need to respect the neighborhood.
Suggestions, only access the storage area from Schuyler ave, place crushed stone down in
there area of travel, dust control, blocking access from Sandford Ave to the Rail Road Bed.
CLEAN THE MESS they have made already on Sandford Ave.
Just this morning there is a 40 foot trailer loaded the pipe at the end of the block and I'm
seeing the Dump Truck moving materials from Elm Street to the Rail Road Bed.
I'm asking you to take a quick ride to Sandford Ave and confirm my concerns and take
Action Immediately.
Thank You

end of Sandford Ave, unlimited access from Sandford Ave to the Rail Road bed, no
dust or silt control for soil as of yet. Please update.

dump truck twice access Sandford Ave from the Rail Road Bed, once with a trailer, trailing mud down the street once again. Also yesterdys rain did not help as the mud and silt washes
down the embankment onto the street and curbs

Micheal, I would like to let all know I'm seeing progress as of today with this concern. Crushed blue stone is being place in the travel area along the trail next to the Rail Road Tracks (not finshed but started) and down the embankment leading to Sandford Ave. I would still like to see Jersey Bairrers at the top of the embankment (at Sandford Ave) so to stop access to Sandford Ave. Not only for truck traffic but now with the crushed blue stone for soil and dust control it will be attractive for folks to use it as a cut through between Schuyler and Harrison Avenue's. The trail was blocked to traffic for years until the area started being used for storage.
I will update progress as it moves along and Thank You for your effort thus far!

To my surprise it appears worse then first stated. Not only the amount of soil that's stored
(mud, silt, dust, etc.) but the garbage that is being dumped. This is just plan uncalled for
and shows poor stewardship of the neighborhood by the contractor.

Based on what I learned last week, this area of the railroad right of way is often used by various contractors for both equipment storage and sometimes even dumping.
Reivax had originally coordinated to store materials on the property at the end of John Hay for Road Program ‘B’. When the owner failed to clear an area for them to use they stockpiled some material down at this location. Last week we notified them to remove all materials immediately and clean up any disturbances and debris.
We just followed up with them now to make sure they clean up their materials ASAP and don’t use this area again.
