Why doesn't someone let the air out of their tires? They'll get the message!

I have complained that there needs to be a light at this corner. It's dangerous even when there are no trucks blocking sight lines, but the trucks definitely make it a lot worse. I inch my way out. Living on Bishop, the trucks at Nica's are a regular occurrence that have to be dealt with. I'm not sure what they can do other than park further up Bishop or down Bishop and walk their goods up the street. Makes me wonder where all the trucks (and cars) would park if Nica's expansion is ever approved.

An excellent solution to the problem. I find that when someone is breaking the law, causing a public nuisance and endangering the public's health and well being, it is best to simply turn around and drive the other way.

In fact, I think we can all learn from this stellar piece of advice from that highly intelligent individual *ANOTHER WAY*, and apply it to other areas of life!

If a local politician steals funds, lies and cheats, it is best to just turn around and ignore him... maybe @#$% go away on his own!! Maybe @#$% magically see the light and stop being corrupt!

If you see a neighbor being robbed - best not to come to their aid. Just close the curtains so you can't see the problem any more and POOF - it goes away!!

Wow, I wish I had thought of this solution before - it certainly makes my life easier! When you dont have to care about anyone but yourself, life becomes a HECK of alot easier.

Again and again and again... The Nica's Supply trucks keep blocking sightlines. Will this ever stop???? Came close to hitting a pedestrian this time.

Why doesnt' Nica's do anything about this? Are they so arrogant and thoughtless that they dont feel any responsibility for fixing problems they impose on our neighborhood? We need to boycott Nicas until they stop putting us at risk with their negligent behavior.

I've printed the comments out and will talk to Tony / Rosanna this afternoon on behalf of the Bishop-Hine Block Watch. Scott Braithwaite is heading up development of a complete streets proposal to see if all of the safety concerns in that vicinity can be addressed comprehensively.

I'm sure he'd appreciate everybody's help....

I absolutely agree that traffic and parking in this stretch is still unsafe and that there's a lot to do. But I can also see that questioning the motives on one side or the other won't help solve this or any other problem. So...

FTR, members of the Block Watch met last fall with Nica's owners and with Jim Travers. We proposed moving the bus stop to the other side of the street, moving the parking spots in front of Nica's and replacing them with a partial-day delivery zone.

Mr. Travers wouldn't act without a broader base of input in the form of a Complete Streets proposal -- which is now under way. He did, however, say he would lend official weight to any request Nica's owners made to their suppliers to alter their delivery schedules and parking habits. Nica's owners did, in fact, follow up with the drivers -- and say they continue to pressure them to park in their lot rather than in the bus stop, the one exception being the one 18-wheeler that can't fit into their lot.

Short answer is they're working on it and so is the rest of the Block Watch. And, BTW, not all of the trucks blocking the view are Nica's suppliers'. The attached was snapped at 11:57 this morning.

Why are residents responsible for coming up with plans to fix the problems of trucks that are there in the course of Nicas doing their business. If Nicas was not there, no trucks would be parked there.... so could someone explain to me why the neighborhood has to take care of this problem??

Nicas has been aware of this problem for more than two years now, and they have done... nothing. At least as far as I've seen. The problem has persisted.... and persisted .... and persisted. I have nearly hit a couple pedestrians and at least a half dozen cars in the last few years due to Nica's supply trucks.

I am scared spitless that one day I'm going to hit someone... simply because I cannot see where to turn.

You have spoken with Nicas about this problem. Others have spoken with them about it. For YEARS. And YEARS. What possible good would it be for me to go and talk with them? Would my involvement be this great epiphany that magically create the tipping point whereupon they would suddenly take responsibility for the problems they create in this neighborhood and fix them?

I think not.

Instead, they are washing their hands of all responsibility and foisting the problem on us.

Yeah, that sounds like a great neighbor to me. A veritable pillar of the community. So, I ask you again - do you REALLY think they feel a part of our community?

i think the reason that nica's is ambivalent is that they don't realize how dangerous the situation really is.

also, they see other markets up the street do the same thing, really. but, the reason the other markets don't create such a hazard is because their trucks are AFTER an intersection, not immediately before one/ in the middle of one. and that they aren't constantly illegally blocking a bus stop.

terrible parking habits are everywhere. "no standing anytime" really just means "i can park here as long as i don't get caught". count how many instances you see this happen today in new haven-- i bet it will be in the double digits. many people don't consider how they are affecting the sight lines at intersections, or that they are blocking a bus stop so that a handicapped person waiting at the curb wouldn't be able to get on the bus.
