Description

The homeowners along California continually complain about the after hour noise coming from the shopping center on the northeast corner of California and Taber.

Most recently on March 9, 2015 at 22:17 hours as instructed by the police department I called dispatch in regards to a loud machine being ran out of a white van to the front of Pieology. PD responded with 15 minutes making contact with the business parking lot cleaning crew. The noise continued after the officer left. At 22:34 hours I called dispatch for the disposition of the call. I was told the responding officer had given the crew an additional 30 minutes to finish their work. (unacceptable) I called again at 22:51 requesting a second response for the noise violation. At 23:12 hours I called to cancel the response, the noise had finally stopped.

The residents have been told by the police department the business owners will be held accountable for noise ordinance violations. We have also been told to remedy this issue extra patrol will be put in place, an officer assigned to this area would contact the business owners and make them aware of the noise ordinance putting them on notice that they will be held accountable. We were also instructed to call dispatch and request a PD response should there be another occurrence.

Why is this still occurring? Was follow up ever done as promised above? Why did the police officer who responded on March 9th give the cleaning crew the authority to continue to break the law for an additional 30 minutes?

So again, we ask what can be done to stop this continual noise issue? Is it possible for the city to plant additional trees on the city side of the easement up against the residential block wall along California to block some of this noise? Can consideration be taken to build taller block walls on the residential side of California? Our 700,000 dollar homes were here before the shopping center was built!
