Description
This is a long-term issue rather than one that needs “to be addressed immediately” (as in it is loud right at this moment) so I thought it appropriate to address here.
The Mayor's Action line says: “**For issues such as noise ordinance violations, panhandling, illegal dumping, illegal parking, or any health/safety issues that need to be addressed immediately, please call the SPPD Non Emergency Line: 727-893-7780” - which will not help.
What I would like to see some action on is enforcing noise/vehicle regulations concerning loud motorcycles and vehicles. On this Sunday morning I just enjoyed listening to some motorcycle with loud exhaust not just going by my condo but I could hear it for a while more as it travelled into the distance – and I have new hurricane windows! Calling the SPPD about this would be useless because the offending motorcycle or vehicle would be long gone.
Regularly I am disturbed by such loud vehicles and can easily hear them a mile away. Why is the noise ordinance or other ordinances that would apply to this not enforced?
Honda’s large motorcycles are as quiet as luxury cars. The old bit about “loud is safe” for motorcycles is just plain a lie. Otherwise, we’d remove the mufflers from all our cars and sound like the St Pete Grand Prix every day!
If a few motorcycles or cars with loud exhausts parked outside City Hall during a Council meeting and revved their engines, I bet some action would happen then.
All it takes is the City Council and Mayor’s office to direct that the law get enforced – along with a fine of a decent amount – and I bet people would get some mufflers quickly and the rest of us would not have to listen to and be bothered by this excessive noise! I know the SPPD has bigger priorities but surely this can get addressed and enforced without neglecting other things. This affects the quality of life and how people view St. Petersburg in a relatively small but meaningful way.
I hope that you and the Council will please address this issue.
Thank you,

City staff periodically review past SCF reports that are made both from citizens and internally from various departments, and in an effort to clean-up old issues that were resolved some time ago, we are marking as 'closed' those issues that were submitted in the past for which the work has been completed or the issue has otherwise been resolved.
If you think for any reason that the issue you submitted in the past might still be unresolved, please feel free to submit a new report with the SeeClickFix St. Pete website and we will make sure the issue is directed to the appropriate City department to be addressed as soon as possible.
Thank you,
