Description

I am posting a photo of an annual problem with snow removal at the busy intersection of Freight and Meadow Streets hoping someone in the city will see it and take action.

As many know, there are THREE lanes of traffic when Freight meets Meadow. I believe one allows cars to turn right towards West Main and two lanes turn towards downtown and the courthouse.

However, each winter the City does not plow one of the two right turn lanes. No idea why. They only clear two lanes leaving the snow heaped up in what was the furthest right lane.

This street has heavy traffic and especially in the morning because two very busy lanes are now reduced to one traffic will back up way past the railroad bridge as cars have to merge to one lane. This only ends when the sun melts enough of the snow off the third lane for people to squeeze by or with the arrival of Spring... not good.

I realize after a storm the city may need a backhoe and dump truck to gather the snow and move it off the road as there is no where to put it without blocking the sidewalk. However, you don't just use a travel lane as a place to store snow all season especially at such a busy intersection.

Can someone look into this and make sure it's not only cleaned up but not handled this way next season?
