Description
Every day hundreds of people cross Whitney at Audubon, having to dodge speeding cars trying to make it through the light at Whitney and Trumbull - or worse yet, so they can hurry to sit at the red light! This intersection has numerous facilities on either side, including the Neighborhood Music School, ACES, Creative Arts, various eating establishments, etc. Every day people are nearly hit, me included. How much does a bucket of paint to paint some zebra stripes cost? I'll paint it myself.

I agree with Michael D. There are many other tickets open about this very issue and it really needs to be addressed with a crosswalk and other warning markings.
Do a crosswalk but also install yield markings and 15 MPH speed limit markings in advance of the walk.
People are getting seriously injured at this intersection on a regular basis and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed. Please address this issue ASAP.

i walk across this intersection multiple times per day for my job, and i am afraid of getting killed. there is a legal crosswalk extending from the sidewalks on audubon across whitney, but no paint to show it. whitney is so wide at its start - make some angled parking on the even-side of whitney between grove and audubon to try and slow down the traffic, plus add parking spaces?
cross walk is very much needed to start. just some paint.

Agreed, this is such a no-brainer, it ought to be tops on the city's priority list. I attempt to cross here once/twice a week with my two young daughters to get from NMS over to the deli, Clark's or just to our parked car and drivers could NOT CARE LESS about letting anyone cross.
In the short-term, the city should stripe two crosswalks here across Whitney, or maybe just stripe the whole intersection. Long-term, add curb extensions where possible and ramps, obviously, or even raise the entire intersection.
This would be good for the hundreds of students, from pre-school through grad school, for nearby workers, for current businesses already contending with the detrimental one-way traffic, for filling the many long-standing vacancies on Audubon Street, and the list goes on. The only downside might be a few second delay for drivers before having to sit at the light at Trumbull. To have zero safe crossings between Grove and Trumbull in what is an otherwise pedestrian-oriented downtown area just boggles the mind.

Orange and Audubon it has the same situation, a lot of traffic driving too fast, frequent accidents happen and very active corner bicycles, pedestrian fighting with cars just to cross over. In my lunch time I have the other adventure to get cross Whitney and Audubon. cars passing to fast and no stopping.

There are identical issues to this still open, so I don't think this ticket is worth closing yet. We need to be able to refer to these comments and testimony in order to advocate for a fix. It is something that really needs to be addressed.
Don't give up - Issue #23 (about installing walk signals on Route 34) took the city two years to address, even though it was a spot with several fatalities and severe injuries, but they eventually did do something.
Does anyone want to start a simple online petition / website documenting all of these comments? That would probably be the next step to increase the pressure. Once a site was live, it could be more easily distributed to surrounding businesses, residents and parents using area schools. I am happy to help advise on creating one--, just need someone to volunteer 2 or 3 hours of their time.

Everyone please to call your Alderperson, plus the city's engineering / traffic departments, and note this is an issue.
Despite numerous postings on SeeClickFix with dozens of votes, the word has not gotten through to anyone at City Hall that anyone cares about this intersection. We have gone to several in person meetings there recently but they need to hear from more than a couple people on this.
It's great to vote on this site, but if more than two or three people don't go in person to City Hall and explain the nature of the problem here (or at least make a phone call or send an email about it), it is unlikely to be taken seriously. One phone call can make a huge difference.
Please post here if you make any contacts or get responses.
