Description

During the evening rush hour there is significant traffic coming from the Casino down Aqueduct Rd. 90% of which is attempting to make a left onto Lefferts Blvd. The Right turning lane is a right turn only lane so only the left lane can be legally used to turn left. For years I have watched as many motorists cut the line traffic off that is waiting in the left turning lane by using the right turn only lane to go left. This violation is very frequent and rampant during evening rush hour. This is extremely dangerous because the light changes quickly and due to being cut off now the legal left turning traffic is put into a situation where they almost have to go through a red light just to make the turn or they face sitting through 3 light changes because they keep getting cut off before they can make the turn. Also, a lot of the legally left turning traffic needs to get immediately over to the right lane on Lefferts Blvd because they are trying to make a right I678 and the illegal traffic turning left from the right lane makes that very dangerous.

The way I see it there are 2 possible solutions:

1. To ask the police to start enforcing the traffic laws at this intersection and ticket violators until the behavior stops. Or

2. Convert the right turning lane into a lane where you can legally turn either right or left.

I've also seen double violations here where I've seen people drive through a solid red light and make a left from the right turning lane.

I've already written to the DOT through their website twice and have never received a response.
