Description
The lights are horrible here. If you're going east to west and you are turning left and the lightrail is going it wont let you turn left even though that doesn't even come close to interfering with the lightrail. Also it lets people going north to south and vice versa go for 3 lights before it lets others go!!!

We appreciate your email.
There is certain light rail train timing information that affects this traffic corridor.
Minneapolis Public Works Traffic division works with Metro Transit to minimize congestion and delay impacts on non-LRT users of the Hiawatha Avenue and 5th Street corridors.
On the Hiawatha portion of the corridor when a LRT train is approaching an intersection, the traffic signal is programmed to begin the process of clearing the tracks and closing the gates. The train has absolute right of way and will not reduce speed or stop at the crossing except in an emergency.
During peak periods of the day with 7.5 minutes between LRT trains, there may be a train crossing an intersection every 3 to 4 minutes.
Once the LRT train has cleared the crossing, resynchronization of the traffic signal with the adjacent traffic signals restarts. The signal is often unable to complete this coordination effort before the next train arrives. Public Works has adjusted the signals to the best of their ability and under current Metro Transit operational policies further adjustment is not possible.
We have already submitted a service request to our Traffic Department. We have linked your report to the open case being worked. The reference number is 683064. This should be addressed by 1/10/2012.
If there is anything else we can help you with please contact us. Thank you for emailing the City of Minneapolis.

It is WRONG, all the haggling and work to get it in and then all the money and "planning," give me a break.
More people ought to be complaining and DEMANDING that it be fixed. Can you imagine the energy wasted "sitting" by all the motorists over the lifetime of the line?

today and it wasnt a time when there was a lightrail
and i had to wait behind a few people and got out when
it was just turning red. I timed how long they light was green
and it had just barely made 15 seconds. 15 SECONDS!!!!
Are you kidding me?! The people going north and south get 5
minutes and we get 15 seconds?!!! What an atrocity!
