The ACUA is taking immediate action to respond to recent odor control complaints from our landfill. Our Board has authorized an emergency contract for additional landfill gas collection wells. We believe that landfill gas is not being completely collected and that the existing landfill gas collection system has been negatively impacted by the excessive rainfall over the past year.
This project consists of the installation of 18 new landfill gas collection wells which will provide for increased collection of landfill gas and help to eliminate the escape of gas and any odor control issues. By authorizing an emergency contract, our Board is attempting to trim a significant amount of time that a project, such as this, would normally take if we were to use the traditional bidding process.
Quotations for this work were received on January 6, 2012 and the ACUA will notify the selected contractor on January 9, 2012. The contractor will immediately begin the process of procuring the NJDEP permits that are required for this type of project. We hope this project will be completed by the end of February.
