Suddenly, Suddenly where have you been. It has been at epidemic levels for years take drive though West and East Oakland. There seems to be zero enforcement and wide spread apathy. They need to put up huge bounties, excessive fines to compensate for the bounties and hundreds of hours of community service to remove the work of all the spray vandals in my humble opinion.
I've been trying to keep the graffiti mavens at bay in my neighborhood... how about you?
What really needs to happen is from the top... enforce the laws we have on the books, which includes prosecution. I have heard way too many times of people apprehending the culprits, turning them over to the police and then having the cops let them off a block away. That has to stop.
I am a volunteer for Keep Dimond Clean part of Keep Oakland Beautiful.org. The volunteers pick up and do graffiti removal in the Dimond business district. We have enough money in donations to pay for litter pick up 5 days a week. There is a volunteer group that picks up Dimond park on Monday mornings. Scott I am not sure how many of the spray vandals are paying for the spray paint let alone any surcharge. It would be interesting to find out what the numbers are for theft of spray paint??? They are Vandals.
