Speeding and signal violations are a constant problem here and at other intersections in the area. There have been many crashes. If police won't even follow the law who will?

This is why so many drivers in New Haven have no respect for traffic signals. Lead by example.
Also, there is a Statute that requires an emergency vehicle to use their lights and/or siren before going through a light. The Police need to react as required, but are at a minimum, required to flash overhead lights while going through the intersection and a quick horn blast wouldn't hurt.

P.S. I don't believe this Bob Smuts Yale School of Management '99 should be given any authority to close any case

It is a serious issue. It was reported in 2011, when City officials such as myself used a feature of SCF that the City pays for to follow issues reported in different categories (including the catch-all "other"). At the time, it was still possible to report an issue not in a category - such as this one - which did not show up in the dashboard feature that we use. That has since been corrected, but it meant that this issue did not come to my attention in a timely manner.
I can promise you that if a similar issue is reported now, I will see that appropriate action is taken by the department head (Chief, in this case). Unsafe and illegal driving by city employees is a serious issue that will be dealt with as such.
Leaving an issue that happened in 2011 open, however, undermines the effectiveness of SeeClickFix to address and track the performance of people like me in responding to them. If unsafe driving by police officers is still an issue - report it as you see it. I won't close the new issues until I have a report on my desk describing what action was taken by the Chief or Assistant Chief on that issue.
