Excessive speeding through a residential area. a great deal of children under the age of 10 frequently outside playing and riding bicycles. constant speeding down the street has led near accidents and running kids over. ▶Archived
While walking down Royal Grant Drive, you have to constantly step up into someone's front yard in order to safely allow speeding cars to pass you. The speeding on this road is entirely unsafe and it saddens me that nothing has been done about it. Perhaps having a marked police car like the one that is frequently parked on Milwood would help. Something should be done to combat this issue.
The speeding down royal grant needs to be addressed. There shouldn't be constant fear of getting ran over or having someone slam into your vehicle as you exit or enter your driveway. As a tax-paying citizen I should not have to be the one to videotape or post pictures of the issue in question. Having law enforcement or another city department check on the issue in the interest of public safety should be sufficient enough. It would be horrible to see something severe and unfortunate happen in order to get someone to take notice and bring about change.
I ran into one of my neighbors while out walking and we nearly got side-swiped as we stood between two cars parked in front of my house. The speeding on royal grant is insanely dangerous. There has to be something done. Our tax dollars seem to keep public officials employed, but not many are doing anything to change the real problems that hinder public safety. One of my fellow neighbors has mentioned that she was told there has to be images and video to document the problem. What are the hundreds of police officers that the Chesapeake Police employs doing all day? There are plenty of officers sitting idle in parking lots or parked next to other officers cars throughout Great Bridge just shooting the breeze, yet concerned citizens have to pick up the slack and demonstrate the problem with speeding in our neighborhood. Perhaps writing a letter to the govenor will turn some heads. It is an outrage that nothing has been done to correct this issue.
I have requested that Public Works put out the electronic speed limit sign on Royal Grant to make residents more aware of their speed. The service request number is 3956. I have also sent another request to the Police Department to monitor this road for speeding issues.
