Description
Many times a day cars and trucks use this intersection as a U-turn area, even though there is limited sight distance and turning area. Also people eastbound on Hidden Cove turn onto and from Selfors with limited success, sometimes landing wheels/trailers in the ditch. Even though I've only witnessed one accident in three years here, there has been many more close calls. There are many cars a day at this intersection, contractors, lost people, alternate bus route, business traffic to Selfors Garage etc. I would like you to consider putting no U-turn signs at this intersection and additionally/alternatively putting a sign on Hidden Cove prohibiting east bound right hand turns on to Selfors.

In regards to the request for a NO U-TURN sign on Hidden Cove and/or Selfors, a review of the accident data base shows no incidents related to a u-turning motion of this kind reported at this intersection.
A site visit measurement of 385 feet was measured for available stopping sight distance approaching from the west. A review of the geometric design standards suggests a minimum of 255 feet for the design speed and relevant downhill grade.
The use of NO U-TURN signs on Hidden Cove Rd is a non-standard use of the regulatory sign. Hidden Cove Rd is signed for lower speeds due to the undulating terrain and lower sight distances. Responsibilities lies with the person exiting the driveway and the on-coming driver to adjust speeds accordingly and drive in a cautious manner as with any other street on the Island.
At this time, a NO U-TURN sign isn’t warranted.
