Description
Improper placement of Stop sign and lack of Yield sign for traffic turning from northbound Rte 116 onto Barrack Hill Rd @ Rte 116. Drivers fail to yield to oncoming traffic on Barrack Hill Rd. Very dangerous intersection. Stop sign for Barrack Hill to turn left onto Rte 116 in wrong location.

Agree. Traffic turning onto Barrack Hill from North bound Rte 116 is supposed to yield to traffic on Barrack Hill Road and most of the time does not.

Yes, it's a dangerous intersection. There are a lot of those in Connecticut. So, hang up the phone, slow down and watch where you're going! It's not a traffic control issue, it is a driver control issue.

Mr Swiatek, you could not any more wrong.. The problem is as I read it drivers to not yielding right of way to oncoming traffic. Paying attention is important but the drivers in question are supposed to yield.

Dear Joe,
At this intersection it is not a matter of speed or in this case even phone use. It is the simple fact that drivers making the left turn onto Barrack Hill Road form Rte 116 are supposed to, by law, grant the right of way to other traffic on Barrack Hill Road. That is, grant right of way to traffic turning right onto Barrack Hill Rd from Rte 116 and traffic on Barrack Hill Road that is going to turn left onto Rte 116.
Yes a driver must pay attention, but they must obey traffic laws and in this case it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident.
This particular intersection is plagued by drivers not granting the right of way and making improper turns by cutting the corner before the proper location on Rte 116.
Speed and phone use are a problem, but in this case they are not the issue. I am quite sure if you were involved in an accident @ this intersection and you were the operator that had the right of way on Barrack Hill Rd you would not relinquish your not being at fault in the accident.

Almost hit three times last week.. VERY dangerous intersection. Needs to be fixed.

As long as people like Stephen are driving, no traffic control improvement can allay our fears completely. As a mother of three beautiful children, I find the best defense is a large SUV.

I wonder if the town has any data on the number of accidents at this intersection.
Harry (Guest)
It is not even the number of accidents, but the fact that a serious one will happen and could well be prevented. Around lunch time I have seen the same flatbed tow truck several times cut the corner to fast and fly up Barrack Hill with no intention on yielding to anyone. Last week a large heavy duty wrecker from the same company did the same thing(same driver too). While the law is clear on who has the right of way it seems that very few drivers know.

Looks like someone moved the Stop sign, but I agree there needs to be a Yield sign..

Almost a horrific accident here on Saturday.. It was a NEAR miss. The town REALLY needs to put in a yield sign. I called the State and they told me they moved the stop sign to the correct location but any additional signs were the towns responsibility.
Time to Yield (Guest)
I was on Barrack Hill today and witnessed two cars come flying off Route 116 turning left on Barrack Hill Road. Both cars cut the corner and neither granted the right of way to a car(me) on Barrack Hill Road. What is the town waiting for..? Someone to get killed here.. How much can a yield sign cost to install?

I see that the Stop sign has been moved, much better.. Wonder why the Yield sign was not erected? It would really improve the safety and awareness at the intersection.

Needs Yield Sign, seems that drivers do not know the law re who is required to yield right of way
