Would be nice to have some bike racks on chapel street near Idiom and other stores. Parking meters and poles already heavily used and not enough space to lock up

this is especially true now that the city finds it necessary to put those silly decorative coverings on the parking meters, making them too wide to fit many types of u-locks anymore!

This area has slate sidewalk tiles, which is why we haven't installed bike racks here. It's an added cost to replace the stone with a concrete foundation that would support a bike rack. Since we have added numerous bike racks throughout the city, this is a more viable location and we will definitely look into this for the spring/summer of 2012.

Agreed. I wish the city would choose to invest in bike racks. Sigh.

You will find them all over the city. The dept. just installed a total of 14 racks last week on Howard Ave and at other downtown locations. We are currently receiving requests for addtional racks from the community and will be installing more this summer. So far, the dept. has invested in the purchase and installation of 81 bike racks over the past 3 years. This number does not reflect the total number in New Haven as Yale has also installed numerous bike racks as well.

Inverted - U bike racks will not be installed along this stretch of Chapel due to the slate sidwalks. We are currently looking at other possible options in this area. Thank you.
