Inspector contacted property owner to divert the water away from the sidewalk

Inspected the area last week with Streets. The sidewalk was dry ROW will keep a close eye on the area and salt as needed until spring. In the spring, we plan on: 1. extending the pipe under the sidewalk, into the greenbelt 2. excavate the greenbelt and create stone bedding to give water opportunity to infiltrate. 3. Cut a notch in the curb so that if water does not infiltrate, water can weep into the gutterline of the road and down to the drain.

I'm not an engineer, but judging by the ice that is on South Union Street today, I question whether the water will run down the road to drain. Won't it freeze?

Forgive my outrage, but the city is going to do all of that to correct a poorly planned private drain system, while severely heaved and tilted sidewalk slabs on Hayward st are not only an icy mess and a trip hazard, but also channel water directly into my foundation and subsequently my basement. Multiple requests to the city have yielded no results. How about property owners correct issues on their property, and the city correct issues on theirs!

I couldn't agree more. Very surprised to see the City so motivated to correct this issue, as well as the 207 South Union issue, when so many other issues remain unresolved.

Work was completed to provide a drainage pathway to capture the groundwater that was causing the icing on the sidewalk. - this issue is closed
