Description

The lake behind Shore Acres Elementary had a fish kill on November 3rd. (Issue ID:1347614 & 1348546) Ever since then there has been an increasingly strong noxious odor coming from the lake. There is also a repugnant white slime/scum on the surface of the lake and coating the shoreline. The water in the lake has also had an unnatural appearance to it since the fish kill. It's cloudy and almost brown in color.

Is this associated with the water treatment plant adjacent to the lake? Did something leak into the lake? Neighborhood residents and children at the school have suffered from the odor but are also at risk for respiratory inflammation. Has the city checked the water quality for safety? Do you know what the root cause of the fish kill was and is this also the cause of these other lingering issue? When identified, will there be steps in place to prevent future occurrences?

Stormwater had done some work to the drains and connection between the lake and the bay back in October - could this be related?

Thank You for your attention into this.
