The automatic call did not give dates; it simply said "be aware." The City's Web site says that a call will be made to those in danger of being towed the day before the scheduled sweep. And if impermanent paper signs are the only other notification, then the phone call is extremely important. Here's what the City of New Haven's Web site says: "Tag and Tow Routes – Residents must move their cars or get ticketed and towed. Paper 'No Parking' postings will be done 24 hours before sweeping begins in the neighborhood. The extra postings will provide a noticeable alert. City’s emergency notification system will also remind residents who have opted into the Emergency Notification System and live in a Tag and Tow neighborhood that street sweeping is scheduled for the next day and that cars must be moved or they will be tagged and towed." Well, these signs were up on time, although now they are gone--vandals?--but they were not posted well, and there was NOT a phone call yesterday.

The weather probably took some of them down. I'm on Howard and they did paper on Friday, but on some of the trees they had to tape because the stapler wouldn't go through. I imagine that's part of the problem. Keep an eye on your neighbors' cars!

City is sending e-mails through See Click Fix notification system to the neighborhoods. We also did a citywide phone call at the beginning of the special pre-snow street operation. With the weather being iffy, we have had to adjust accordingly with Tag-Tow operations ceasing. We are requesting that residents move their cars out of the street sweeper's way to help maximize the effectiveness of these special street sweeping operations.

During the regular street sweeping season(April - October) we will indeed utilize Emergency Notification System as we have in the past plus we will utilize e-notice system in See Click Fix. We have published the regular seasonal schedule and will continue to do so. The signage is often impacted by weather etc but we will review all communication vehicles for the regular and special street sweeping season. Thanks.

But no day-before phone calls were made in July when my car was towed, and the online schedule did not reflect the correct day of the week--one schedule said Fridays for FHH, another said Mondays, and I was towed on a Wednesday. Also, the current page RE: seasonal sweeping posts the exact same blurb about day-before phone calls, so I think the City needs to review what it publishes more carefully if those calls are not going to be made.
