Description

This is an Accident Waiting to Happen! The Traffic Signals at the intersection of Bedford Street and Eastern Avenue have been on a very strange sequence pattern for years.
Bedford Street eastbound and westbound get the Green signal simultaneously, but Eastern Avenue does not.
Eastern Avenue Northbound gets the Green signal and then about 15-20 seconds later, Eastern Avenue Southbound finally gets the Green.
The problem here is that the Northbound side is already moving and traffic races to turn left down Bedford Street because they think they can beat the Southbound side before it gets the green. Once the Southbound side begins to move, the left lane has to wait because Northbound traffic turning left is blocking half of Eastern Avenue. I've seen so many near accidents because of this... In fact, I've been cut off and almost broadsided quite a few times myself and one of these days I can foresee a serious accident here.
The Green signals need to be in sync, or perhaps we do away with old iron pedestal signals and add modern, hanging signals with the addition of a left turn lane like the Locust Street and New Boston Road intersections.
