Allow me to second this concern with more than just a vote. Not sure how this can be addressed on the ground, but it is obnoxious beyond belief… and I'm speaking as someone who's a big fan of live music and listening to music on a decent system… but in my own home not impacting the neighborhood, or in my car but not loud enough to carry down the street.

Did I mention it's really very obnoxious?

The police are aware of this and of the more general issue of overly-loud music emanating from vehicles, and the issue of unusually loud motorcycles, all of which is troubling in the neighborhoods. Because these vehicles are moving around it is hard to cite them. It would be very helpful if you can keep an eye out and if you can get a tag number that would allow the officers to contact the vehicle owner. They may not be able to cite them but often a little personal encouragement can reduce the incidence of this problem. Thanks.

Hard to cite them? Light them up and pull them over. May not be able to cite them? It is clearly a violation of amplified noise permit rules and multiple other ordinances. We citizens are getting really tired of not having laws enforced that were put in place in order to protect our peaceful ways of life in our communities.

The problem is catching them in the act. Motorcycles slow down, stereos go off or get turned down as soon as they see a blue-and-white, so any help you can provide the police in terms of writing down a tag number when someone rides through the neighborhood with the stereo up will go a long way to helping them have an impact on this problem. In the case of motorcycles, the police would simply need to do a spot check when the bikes are parked (e.g in front of Flying Saucer) to check that the mufflers conform to code. NC State Law does not allow the manufacturer's mufflers or baffles to be removed or modified. It is my understanding that it is a simple and quick procedure to do the check, looking at the vehicle and part identification numbers.

We need more unmarked cars in Raleigh, plain and simple.

I was just on Hargett and Tarboro and a whole slew of loud stereo cars drove by... I think they are going to a gathering.

One thing that may also help is if the City of Raleigh randomly parks marked police cruisers around town like Cary does.

Officers never pull over loud bikes. I just saw a pack of them drive up Fayetteville St., right by officers. They should all be pulled over or have their tag taken and then fined. It is way over-the-top loud on these things.
