They should be taken down for the simple fact they are an eyesore and if they aren't symbolizing drug sales then they could possibly be bringing people to that area in search of the what the "myth" implies.

The symbol is made up junk so that people think cities are terrifying places. This is a public forum and if people are going to trot out stupid myths that make my neighborhood appear to be a terrifying place, I'm going to call them out on it. I'm also going to call them out because I don't like the notion that someone throwing shoes on a wire is going to be considered a drug dealer.
Taking them down is fine, but we don't need to garbage commentary to go along with it.
