Description

Two mattresses - or a mattress and box spring - are under the overpass. This is nearly a weekly event. Can't there be some enforcement?

Fair Haven is becoming a dumping ground. .why cant these people just take this to the city dump....why are they so lazy and its sad you have to report it to the police and then they report it to public works (if they do) it takes about 3 weeks before they pick it up or you have to keep reporting it yourself. ..

J Graham, in defense of Public Works, they usually have responded in less than 2 weeks for issues I've reported. I agree with your point about laziness. Going to the dump requires a dump pass and being there when the dump is open to the public (8 til noon). Getting a dump pass means going to the office on Middletown Ave AND showing ID and proof of residency. Why go through all that when it's easier to wait past midnight and dump it under the highway? In lieu of enforcement thr City should increase the lighting beneath the overpass. The lazy would be less likely to dump if they're more likely to be seen.

I agree on increasing the lighting, I also think they should fix the fence and plant some shrubbery and make it go with the corner of the entrance of the street...and for your comment on public works, this was the problem with me every time I call or report it on seeclickfix it has taken over 3 weeks and thats after me calling and reposting.... they picked up the mattresses but left all the leaves and trash thats under them...this is suppose to be a safe walk for the children to school and its not.

People live down there. They should be able to make use of the mattresses that other people leave there.

Excuse me "Guest" but don't blame Harp for a policy developed and created by the Destefano administration. There's NO payment needed at all to drop off a mattress or any other household trash you can haul in your Belchfire Motors special. Go to Public Works. Show proof of residency. Get a coupon booklet. Drive it in. If you have too much to drive, they'll pick it up from your curbside. Call and make an appointment.
