Description

Today I was parked at a 2 hour non-metered spot on 8th Street across from the community college parking deck. After two hours I came out and moved my car. I noticed they had time-stamped my vehicle with chalk for 10:33 am. I then drove down Duval Street Connector (353) and up N 10th street, turned right down Leigh street and parked right in front of 800 E Leigh Street. I paid the parking meter for another half an hour, went in the building, and when I came back I had a ticket even though my time was not expired. The ticket was for the chalked time stamp of 10:33 am. When I called the ticket office and told them the ticket had been made in error (I moved more than 500 ft) the person on the phone and then the manager told me that they were looking at a picture of the time stamp on my car. Since the chalk "still appeared fresh" they said that the ticket stood and essentially called me a liar (because the chalk wasn't rubbed off) when I explained that I had moved my car more than 500 feet. Do they think the chalk somehow magically disappears after moving 500 feet? That chalk can stay on the car after moving several city blocks. I definitely plan to pursue this in court, which unfortunately is a huge waste of time for everyone involved - but these people are sharks and take advantage at any given opportunity.
