Yo, good photo! That is really messed up. Somehow we need to educate some persons and help them feel for our public spaces. Some persons just can't be helped at times.
Are there any businessess on Dimmick, Hancock or in the close-by vicinity that would like to adopt
this park? Perhaps a couple of businesses taking responsibility for this park being checked on and
cleaned up daily/weekly. A flower group, perhaps, seeing that the landscaping is maintained and
contacting some businesses to help out their community. Just a thought!
I have walked through here many times seeing much the same thing. Several times people were sleeping, in the middle of the day, in this park. Take out food in bags left beside benches. Are there any barrels available and serviced? Such a shame. What does this say about the people in this city?
This is an area that is going to be aggressively highlighted during Cleaner Greener Day the first weekend in May. The Park Department performs normal maintenance of the area, but the suggestions are certainly worth exploring. Many businesses are hesitant to take on 'adopt an island' programs, and a program on this scale would be extremely difficult to execute.
Yes Chris and we do routine maintenance at Freedom Park. Recently I've been cleaning up after the last big storm. I've picked up all of the bigger branches and have been trying to rake up under the pines and clear the walkways but other projects needed more focus at this time. It will get done in due time.
I wrote about this issue a year or more ago...walking through the park is a bit scarey, take-out rubbish left about, people sleeping mid day....not a friedly place nor safe place. Same o'l same o'l. I agree, perhaps the city can put a "pinch" on local businesses that get a lot of perks from the city, to take on this park. How about boy scouts/girl scouts etc., etc. Who is in charge of these areas? This park in particular is left to it's own devise.....that is speak for... no one is watching. To be real, on occasion, city people do show up, do theri thing and leave....for quite a while before they return. What is happing to the "new Quincy"? These are EXACTLY the DETAILS that this city HAS to pay attention to. Just my view!
This park is cut every two to three weeks in the spring and summer. I know because I am one of the people who do it. I do admit that it does need more attention like Chris said a good cleaning is a great start on cleaner greener. Once that is done cutting the grass, trimming and shrub pruning should keep it up nice.
