Thank you for your submission. Please be advised that DeKalb County provides all sanitation services, including the pickup of yard debris. Please contact them to report this issue - (404) 294-2900.
Dekalb Co. has been called no less than 6 times regarding fallen tree waste at a different location…they have yet done anything!!! Since we became "Brookhaven" we get ZERO service with our tax dollars! The city gives the homeowner notice and threatens them with fines, the county shirks it's responsibility and who gets screwed? You got it!… THE TAXPAYER! Thanks Brookhaven citizens…you were so smart to vote for more government!
Why won't Brookhaven intercede on our behalf? They need to step up and support the residents instead of passing the buck over and over...
Are the people from "City of Brookhaven City Manager's Office" actually here in Brookhaven? Why aren't they more effective at resolving this ongoing litany of problems?
Get it together city employees - you wanted this job - time to do it.
I completely agree with one comment above. For decades County Sanitation picked up just about anything placed at the curb, whether is was cut up according to their rules or not. Since becoming the City of Brookhaven, the County Sanitation Dept.'s service has become mediocre at best. Is this some kind of payback from the County for voting in the City of Brookhaven? Perhaps our City Manager, Marie Garrett should ruffle a few County feathers.
The property in the picture above is owned by none other than DEKALB COUNTY !! Purchased in September by Dekalb County / FEMA Flood Mitigation Buyout Program.
This issue was initially described as a missed sanitation pickup. In this scenario, the property owner would in fact be responsible for contacting DeKalb County directly to arrange for pickup. With approximately 49,000 residents in the city, unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to reach out to DeKalb County for every missed residential sanitation pickup.
I appreciate Mr. Walker providing clarifying information regarding this property. He describes this as a non-residential parcel owned by DeKalb County. More than likely, it is the result of tree work from their own crews. I will be glad to have our Public Works Department reach out to them to find out when they plan to dispose of the debris. I will leave this issue in ACKNOWLEGED status until we get a firm date.
Since the original post, this property has become a dumping ground. Last week, tires were dumped next to the tree debris. This morning, concrete, brick and masonry debris has been disposed here.
steve is spot on -- the neighbors next door to steves old property installed a new fence and tore out the old one . all of the debris was in a bagster bag from lowes that sat in the street for a week or two , then the bagster bag was gone and all debris dumped by power pole on steves old property , the tree limbs have been there for a good while , all appear to be cut to proper length and size for debris pick up by the county. as for the tires , I have not seen them yet , but I do know for a fact that they were not there when steve moved out ! .
If you notice, there is tree debris and / or yard trimmings all over Drew Valley. Dekalb Sanitation Dept. is not picking up anything related to yard trimmings throughout the neighborhood. This is not a case of a missed pick-up but one of pure neglect of the neighborhood by the Sanitation Dept.
