For those of us that live and work in New Haven, contributing to the economy, parking is the least we should expect to have.

Complaints about traffic from people that take jobs away from residents is quite cheeky. Get a job in your suburb; problem solved.

i do live in new haven, just not close enough to walk in. and residents do not need parking from 4-6 on trumbull eastbound terribly urgently as far as i can gather! it used to be no parking there during rush hour, then they switched it, and it was a bad change.

The driving into and out of this city is definitely a problem and it never seems to be addressed. I guess if you work here but don't live here, you are just supposed to spend your money here, support the local businesses here, but keep quiet about the horrible parking and traffic here.

BTW The city is working on getting the traffic to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n and improving mass transportation.

They have been working on mass transportation for 30 years and how far have they got? One train station?

As for slowing down traffic- that's been accomplished, its a parking lot at almost every intersection and you can't get more than a block without a red light.

@skyemoon - way to keep suburban money out of town and kill the local economy- like people who commute don't buy lunch or shop in New Haven or visit establishments after work- your the one that's cheeky- check ur tude

Hey NH Resident. . .those are your words not mine.

Not everyone works 9-5. Plus parking is needed for kids activities near Audubon.

What I see is lack of service from the suburbanites when I am at the hospital, university or other businesses so their traffic woes are not so tragic. As someone that commuted 5 hours/day to NY, this wimpy complaining is a nuisance.

I sit in that same traffic most days to I-91 and avoid the mass exodus that is on I-95 "getting out of dodge."

Many qualified residents can replace the noise. Complaining with the same attitude I am certain they bring to their job.

Has anyone seen a beautiful calico cat?. She wears a collar with bell. She's very gentle and friendly and responds warmly to affectionate strokings. She is desperately missed by her family -- her daughter, her mother and all her human family too. Help please!!

Skyemoon...please consider the economic value from those who drive into NH everyday: We are not the enemy! We eat meals here, shop here, attend events here. We hardly take jobs away from residents--how do you figure? Traffic jams are not good for anyone, particularly residents of New Haven since it increases air and noise pollution, makes getting around a hassle, and creates a poor attitude about coming back on weekends or evenings to spend more money and time in New Haven. Getting traffic in and out quickly adds to the quality of life for everyone. If commuters stayed in their suburbs, as you seemed to suggest, think of the economic damage that would result to New Haven. The suburbs would happily welcome their increased prosperity. Can we have a friendly, thoughtful conversation on the simple idea of making traffic flow more efficiently so we all benefit. Thanks.

How about out-of-city car parks , as in Denver, with a constant flow of free transportation into the city center at rush hour times, scaled to need and reduced in off-peak times?

If Denver can close its city center to private motor vehicles and provide free inner city buses or trams, why not New Haven?

New Haven had a free trolley system when I got here in 2001 and it only ran in a loop downtown to Broadway.

Traffic is frustrating for all; we take the Yale shuttle whenever possible by parking close to a stop with free parking.

@Friend: you are quite correct, sometimes I sit in that traffic 2-3 times as I loop to dropoff and pickup my kids on multiple days.
A problem brought to light should be thoroughly assessed for improvement. My frustration at those who brave this once an evening while I may sit in that traffic 2-3 times without complaining does not make it any less important.

When we feel we are being delayed, how much time are we actually talking about in this move to get out of the city? Seconds, minutes? When you are leaving New Haven and heading for the intersection of Orange and Trumbull streets please consider that there are more pedestrians doing the same thing pushing that walk light button.

What we are forgetting are the pedestrians who press the walk light buttons while you sit in traffic. There may be a memory about how there was no parking on Trumbull but there was also a time there were no walk lights at Orange and Trumbull.

No parking on Trumbull at certain times means more pedestrians and more walk lights. Should everybody close up shop early and go home early?

Maybe you commuters should allow more time for your commute home.

Years ago after there were several accidents at Orange andTrumbull Streets there was a few second delay between Red to Green which gave violators more time to get out of the way.

The accidents are back in a cluster. Cars and trucks crashing into each other and up on the sidewalk damaging property.

It is not a safe intersection, but it is safer if you are crawling home. And it is quieter—slower traffic does not bounce through the uneven pavement.

I suggest if you are not happy here, you find another way.
