Description

Ever since the planned senior housing facility east of the West Oakland BART station burned down and was abandoned, the sidewalk and bike lane along the east side of Mandela Parkway between 5th and 7th Streets has been a mess. Even though the developer is not taking responsibility for this damage there are still people living in the neighborhood and trying to walk and bike here.

I've included a photo of a mother pushing her child in a stroller on the street because the sidewalk is in such a bad condition and unusable. I imagine the developers of the housing facility were well insured and compensated for their loss, and I feel that part of that compensation should go toward fixing the public facilities that were also damaged in the construction and fire, but never finished or repaired.

For a site so close to transit, bicycle, and housing facilities, it is especially shameful that these issues have not been addressed already. At the very least, please start with replacing this sidewalk and ensuring that people can walk and travel safely here. Thank you in advance for your attention.
