RPD visited today and spoke with occupants then left. Looks like its OK for kids to live without power, stove, lights for almost 5 days.

Eight days now, no power/utilities connected at this home and power extension chords running to neighbors house from front windows. Visible candles burning in the windows. Very concerned that there will be a fire if it keeps going like this. Small children and infants living here. Has been reported to RPD three times via 911 and also Raleigh Fire was at address on Saturday for EMS call, still nothing is done. Does anyone read this?

Going on 11 days with no utilities in this home.There are over 12 people living here (squatting). No HVAC, no electric, no hot water. There are 4 children including infants in this home with no way to cook or heat baby formula. Candles are visibly burning in the windows and I am concerned for my family and properties safety. If anyone in the City of Raleigh reads this please respond. I am contacting Raleigh housing, CPS, and Raleigh Fire department on Thursday. Enough is enough.

The thing is, there are no laws against living in a house without electricity or utilities. You grandparents didn't always have electricity/indoor plumbing, and people lived for thousands of years without it just fine. It is considered a convenience/luxury, not a necessity. They look at it as many people in the US still consider to live "unplugged" or off the grid without modern things and do just fine, and in other countries, they don't have all of the modern things that you and I have become accustomed to, and they thrive. So until it becomes against the law to live without utilities world-wide, then nothing will be said or done. Also, a several years ago, then entire City of Raleigh and Durham was without power for days during an ice storm. Nobody had electricity in the middle of winter. Nobody lost their kids, or was taken to court because they didn't have electricity. It is just like camping, except indoors in a permanent structure and not a tent. And there are several houses in Raleigh that don't have HVAC, including my grandparents house. They have fans, and a stove heater. Baby formula does not have to be heated. Just like you don't have to warm up leftovers, you can eat them cold. I know it is sad, and there current conditions of living are not what they should be in today's day and age, but the system does not care about people. As a community, we should step up and help our neighbors if we see that they need assistance instead of calling somebody to get them out of our view because we consider them an eyesore. Go help them. Offer to warm up the baby formula, or give them a hot meal. Be a good neighbor, a role model for others and help them. Tell your church that there is a family in need of assistance. Start a fundraiser to offer them support. The community needs to look out for those around us in need instead of turning a blind eye. You stated that you and the other residents of Bison Hill want something done. Then do something. Put up, or shut up. You offered a problem, but didn't come up with any solution. I am sure that if all of your neighbors donated $5, you could get the electricity turned on, but you are more concerned with yourself it seems than the welfare of the small infant kids and your neighbors.
