You are correct, LaGrange St is a local street, not a State Route.The crosswalk you are referring to is at an uncontrolled intersection and is appropriately signed, according to standards. The fact that drivers are not obeying the law would be a matter for the Police Dept and I will forward your concern to them. Similarly for the speeding issue. LaGrange St is designated as an urban minor arterial street and speed humps/ tables are not appropriate for this type of street. They are only considered for local, residential streets. The appropriate standard for this road is not working. This road is also a residential street serving two schools. It has limited sight view. In this area the speed limit is 25 mph. The bobbing stop sign in the middle of the road is ignored or misunderstood. We have asked for police monitoring and have been advised that this street is situated so that police cars cannot monitor speeds or compliance with the crosswalk issue. A large speed bump that will force traffic to slow is the appropriate answer. I have seen this solution successfully used in other municipalities on major residential streets. During school hours, this crosswalk does not have a crossing guard, either. The other end of Nimmons has a crossing guard and a light. Perhaps a light is the answer. Your current solution, which is ignore the issue is not working. Your referral of the matter to another department is not a viable solution. Thank you for your time. The next step to getting a satisfactory resolution of this issue is to approach the City Council.

I did in fact refer your concern to the Police Dept and this is the response: "I will get the Traffic Unit to work LaGrange Street for speeders. As for the Pedestrian /Stop sign on LaGrange St., I think some drivers are under the impression that every car must stop, as if it were a stop sign, whether a pedestrian is present or not. I will ask Traffic to watch for driver’s not stopping when a pedestrian is trying got cross."
