Description

First and Second Avenues between downtown and Brookland Parkway are in a state of disrepair. You have to swerve or slow to a crawl to avoid damaging your car with potholes. Further, this is a heavily traveled route in Northside, including one for school children who attend Overby-Sheppard. This area is undergoing renovation and the state of disrepair of these avenues cuts against the feelings of pride and the excitement of renovation - including the new housing - on these blocks. Northside deserves some much-needed attention, and as homeowners and new homebuyers do their part to improve the curb-appeal of their homes, the City should do its part as well. With the increase in tax assessments over the past couple of years in this area, it would be fair for homeowners, and all the attendees and teachers and workers at Overby-Sheppard, to get to enjoy and take pride in a nice route on their daily commutes home and to work. We need to have a collective effort to improve Northside! This re-paving would also add a much nicer feel to Six Points, at the intersection of First and Brookland Parkway, which still remains an eyesore. New paving can help attract new investment. We are on the verge of breaking through to a new era in Northside, and a boost from the city - aesthetically and safety-wise - would definitely be of great assistance.
