False information and "crying wolf" only hurts people, it does not help anyone but the person doing it, and then only temporarily because their own reputation is damaged by such a blatant lack of integrity.

Some work 16 hour shifts (3pm-7am) on Saturday & Sunday in the health care field and find it very intrusive when the little train goes pop-pop-pop in the mornings.

...and how long have you lived there? And how long have you worked that schedule?

Actually, no. It's not "ok" for them to cross your property.
However, the place to cross the tracks is at a designated public rail-highway crossing.
However, any time I've seen someone access the tracks, it is either from the shop/yard in Essex or from an aforementioned crossing.
In point of fact, the RR has bent over backwards to be good neighbors, but not everyone can or will be satisfied. There will always be someone who sides against the RR because it is there.

(like the one on Petticoat Junction). I have worked this shift for 32 years.

@Oh My
So, when you first lived there, there were New Haven RR trains going "pop-pop" at whatever hours of day or night.
My point is, in that 56 years, if the trains are such a bother to you why stay?
And do you live by the active scetion (OSB/Essex to Haddam Bridge) or by the Out Of Service area where the only thing you';ll hear is occasional trips by track cars, no louder than a motorcycle on the nearest street, and the occasional chainsaw or weed trimmer?

Ok, just saw your other post.
So... you DO live by the OOS tracks.
Well, they only give kids rides from Haddam Meadows once a year. Also, on that day there is a HUGE meet up of antique machines in the meadow that likely make more noise than the put-puts.
And yes, they do maintenance on that section of line, so yes, you'll hear the chainsaws etc on occasion...
...just like I hear it out here when the power co or the town has the trees trimmed back on my street... or the next street over.
One thing you WON'T hear [the volunteers use] ... a tree chipper!

YOU NEED TO BE RIGHT, so therefore ALL YOUR STAEMENTS ARE 100% CORRECT!

Hey,... I like to fact-check my statements before I make them.
At first, I though that OH MY was complaining about the regular service trains that come up the tracks on a regular basis during the summer. My bad, but some clarification before hand could have helped here. No matter, that clarification and for my assumption, I apologize and stand corrected.
As for the put-puts that do travel up and down, I will say this:
1) They are not a daily thing, nor are they even a regular thing.
2) I really am sorry that the occasional work-ride disturbs you. The health-care industry ids a noble profession in it's own right, so I mean no offense or disrespect.
3) VRR volunteers and employees will not utilize private property to access the tracks. Any incursion or excursion to the tracks will be made via public access points or from VRR or State property. If there's a problem with this not being followed, the RR can be contacted and you will be very respectfully heard and the situation will be addressed. VRR is very good in it's efforts to be "good neighbors" and they are not out to ruin anyone's day or life.
4) The trips up the line and the clearing of brush combined with the occasional spraying of the line are part of the custodial process that the VRR and it's volunteers are undertaking with the cooperation and supervision of the State to maintain access to and use of that portion of the line.
Now... don't worry. You won't see mile long freight trains coming through at 32am or the Acela zipping by at 90mph. It aint gonna happen.
Someday, possibly, some part of the line may see the dinner train travel up that way, but that day, if it ever comes, is a LONG way off.
Meanwhile, it is now possible to view things from the vantage point of the State Property on the OOS portion of the tracks AT OWN RISK.
Remember, 10 years ago, the line was weed-choked and inaccessible to anyone, save a 4wd vehicle with a brush hog. Now the line is open, can be traveled, patrolled and maintained as well as kept more attractive.
There was a theft incident recently along the tracks. Were it not for the volunteer's discovery of the theft-in-progress, several hundred dollars of State property could well have been lost. As it was, VRR and the volunteers restored that portion so that others can eventually enjoy it.

is it appropriate from the litttle (petticoat junction push car) to be out at 10pm/!? making the bang pop pop ooo noise

Hi Sam,
Those putt-putts started running AFTER the opening of the antique machinery show at Haddam Meadows SP. They were part of the show. Everyone who rode them had a great time.
I rode the tracks immediately after the spraying, and also this past weekend. Only dead critters I saw were on the road to get there. SCORES of them on the road, NOT ONE on the tracks. NONE.
But please prove me wrong. Next time you see dead critters on the tracks after spraying please post it somewhere we can all see it. Seeing is believing. ;)
But, as for 10am, would you rather they be run at 6? Maybe 5am? Would that work better for you? Most folks would think it perfectly reasonable. I understand, not everyone is up and about at 10am, and for that, I am sympathetic, however, it's not every day or even every weekend they run.
OH, and btw, just so everyone knows, that portion of trackage was NEVER ABANDONED. It WAS "Out Of Service." It is no longer OOS. It is now "Light Duty." Since it is owned by the State and operated/leased to the railroad for 99 years, there's very little chance of the rails coming up anytime soon, especially since the railroad AND the State have recently invested in the upkeep of the line for use.
Face it, it has been a railroad for over 100 yrs. that means before any of us were born. It will remain a railroad for close to another 100 yrs. That's just how it is.
