DOT web cams show 2-3 cars on the bridge with no issues BUT traffic is GRIDLOCKED all over Portland! 1 hour of sitting in traffic and getting worse. Papers report bridge work going better then expected - really??? We get that the work has to be done but something has to be done to make the flow of traffic better. The bridge is CLEAR and flowing - why are we stuck in our cars in Portland WAITING for an HOUR???

I have traveled back and forth over the bridge numerous times over the last month and havent seen ANY traffic. ????? I have no idea when you are waiting an hour.

it wouldnt be so bad if people (mainly in middletown heading to portland) would use both lanes until the merge on the bridge.. there are like 3 signs saying that as well... instead everyone feels the need to merge at the light right in front of st johns OR plant their @#$% in the middle of both lanes.. and then im the jerk getting flipped off as i FOLLOW DIRECTIONS...

Morning rush hour is the worst. Everyone knew that after Labor Day, all schools back in session, community college commuters, and everyone back from vacations/etc and the traffic was going to get bad again. It was smart of the DOT to start the bridge work in June when school stops- they got to say, "Look- its NOT bad!". Now we're back to reality and definitely yes- the morning commute is terrible through there.
There are no other practical options, just leave earlier. What would be REALLY nice is if one day, a new bridge went straight across from Washington Street. Imagine looking down the hill towards Main Street and seeing a beautiful bridge straight ahead....

please , please ,,, start now improving the gridlock of traffic all over portland ,, and especially lower main st (under the bridge ),,, it is getting worse every day,,, was better before traffic patrols were set up in the am,,,, at least every other car would grant the right of way to a car coming up from under the bridge ,,,, the police controlling the traffic flow now ,,, are making more of a mess,,,, although i will say the patrol at the intersection of 66 and 17 are needed so cars don't block the intersection,,, but does the police car have to sit in the left lane,, entirely blocking that second lane of traffic ,,, how ridiculous
Someone better figure this out before the winter,,, and i am wondering,,, where is the snow going to be plowed to,,, and how is the traffic going to flow,, once the stormy weahter starts,,, the time to think this through is now,,, not in December when the problem is here
modeps
Seems like they have no intention of fixing this issue. With snow here, it's only going to get worse.

Wanted to go out for Dinner SAT night... waited 10 minutes before turning around and driving down to Glastonbury. The bridge sucks.
