I live on Trailside Crossing and have witnessed dump trucks, trackor trailers with large equipment, furniture and garbage trucks that easily have enterend and departed the area with safety. Matter of fact the South Fire district fire truck just came up our street and turned aroung with ease. I have talked to the appropriate officials regarding the current bus stop and their statement was that Crystal Lake Road is too narrow accommodate a standard size school bus. How can this be, especially when the " planning and zoning officails" gave the developer of Trailside Crossing the go ahead to build 11 homes on this street. We currently have 7 occupied homes which have brought numerouse large vehicles entering Crystal Lake off of Prout Hill onto Trailside Crossing. The BOE expect our children to stand in the road on the corner of Crystal Lake and Prout Hill - this is an extremely dangerous area for families to wait for the bus - whether its in a parked car or standing on the corner. In the winter it is even more dangerous. It has been brought to our attention that residents on Prout Hill do not want our children to stand on their property and rightfully so.

After calling the cities sign dept to see if we could get a "Slow Children " sign put up on Trailside Crossing/Crystal Lake area I was informed that it had to go to the Traffic Division Dept with the Middletown Police Dept. I spoke with an officer who informed me that if they put up a sign in that area then everyone would want one on their street too...AND, wouldn't that possibly protect our children? I guess the city doesn;t think so according to his explanation. I then was told to call the Mayors office (as I was going to do anyway) and spoke to a gentleman there who said "the people had to go before the Common Council" with a written request to have this bus stop changed to a safer area and then they would vote on it...Yeah right...I guess we as parents just have to wait until something terrible happens before anything can be done...Sad to say but thats the way it goes...Hopefully all the parents and neighbors will bombard the Common Council meeting (I think the 1st Tuesday of the month) and make our pleas heard...We are willing to take this a step further if no satisfactory results is aquired...Our children are our most prized possessions. You will not put them in harms way. This bus stop is a dangerous area for all ages.

You know what stop freakin whining and go the assigned bus stop. My child waits at a stop with no sidewalks and she is just fine. You are on a low traffic road and are complaining. When your child is on a high traffic road then you can moan. Your child can stand on the corner on THE GRASS. The woman who lives there cannot say anything it is CITY property.

Joanne, These parents are NOT whining they are concerned parents. This bus stop is a very dangerous area...There is alot of traffice in this area. Much more so than in years past....People cut through this area to go the back roads to Durham, trying to avoid Rte#17 traffic...If you don't live in this area than you couldn't possibly be aware of the problems...it doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to see the potential for something serious to happen...I hate to say your not as a concerned parent as they are but you certainly came across with being in that catagory...As far as the neighbor NOT wanting the children on her property "She has that right" as a property owner....and these parents feel she is justified in her feelings...

Wow, just got finished reading some of the responses to this ongoing bus stop issue....Kanesha, If your not concerned with your childs safety thats your right but these parents on Trailside Crossing ARE...The parents DO wait with their children . With the children and their parents waiting there it is that more dangerous . Not enough room for all of them to squeeze to the side of the road...I have viewed this personally....this is NOT a "low traffic " road anymore....Many people from Durham take this road to cut out the Rt 17 traffic...I:ve done it myself. Just recently a huge tractor trailer came into Crystal Lake Road and turned into Trailside Crossing with absolutely NO Problem...
Again the BOE and city are shirking their responsibility to keep these children safe and out of harms way....

Dear concerned parents and neighbors. I'll bet if one of the cities BOE or city employers lived on this street you'd see ACTION immediately. Funny how that seems to work...Come on Middletown, keep our children safe. Don't wait for something tragic to happen before you take action...Prove your in favor of doing whatever possible to keep these children and others who may be in the same type of situations out of harms way... Thank You...Remember, we are the voters of this city and tax payers..you could be out of a job come next election .

No, this issue has Not been fixed and will NOT until someone is either hurt or worse....Nice city we live in .Can't wait to move...Sure glad I don't have little ones to worry about...feel really sorry for these parents who are trying to protect their most cherished possessions.
