Looks like a phishing SCAM to me---a search to obtain Email addresses for use by the Food Nertwork and other commercial enterprises featured if you indicate that you will vote
Don't doubt the value of or the need for the local food truck but this stuff will not strengthen the reputation of SeeClickFix if repetition is allowed.

Mr Schaeffer
Not saying you are part of the scheme but your comments re marketing questions as well as the mandatory Email addresses now even more, read "Phishing SCAM " to me so I will not vote although my original intention was to do so.
Your duplicate posts using different addresses do not seem Kosher either.
Blame my skepticism if you wish, but although I believe you are sincere, the scheme as a whole still seems inappropriate to me for SeeClick/Fix

Not that good with a computer, but will ask one of my daughters to set up as you suggest.
Good idea for getting around it, but the original post is still definitely phishing as I see it.

Thanks for commenting. I am curious about how others users feel about this as well. There should not be multiple posts about the same issue as it can manipulate the emailing of users. As a single post I am curious if others feel this is a fit for SCF though.

Walt - its REALLY easy to do! Go to mail.yahoo.com and "SIGN UP".
Ben - yeah, this isnt really the place IMO for this kind of post but because its health related, Im not too bothered by it. We need all the alerts we can to improve the health of our community.

Ben (and everyone else!),
I think that in this case, something like this is appropriate, because if New Haven's food truck wins, it benefits the greater good rather than an individual. For example, this announcing this contest here alerts the community to an opportunity to support their community. Were it to vote for an individual (in some sort of contest) or a band, etc. I would disagree and say that SeeClixFix is not the correct venue. But, because this benefits the community in general (and certainly not the poster, Chris Schaefer--he doesn't own the truck, work for the organizations involved, etc). I think its more than ok, its GOOD.
I almost cannot understand where Walt is coming from. While the Food Network does ask some (optional) marketing related questions that will certainly benefit them in some way, this is in NO WAY a "SCAM" that he called it. Its absolutely legitimate! I mean, its along the same lines of the orchard that Edgewood Park just won from Edy's (see http://buildingctgreen.com/AuggieVGreenBlog/?p=2474 for more info on that)....a very similar contest. So I guess, for me, the bottom line is this: I can understand not wanting to answer marketing related questions about the cable provider, but this is in NO WAY a scam. Further, if the Food Network did not choose to have people identify themselves by email address, what should they ask for SS #'s? Come on!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I think I feel its appropriate as well.
I was so proud of NHV for winning that fruit tree contest by a landslide.

Please reread.my notes I thought I used considerable effort to avoid and aspersions on the local program or on Mr, Schaffer
Food Network, which apparently runs this contest is not a charity, but a for - profit operation owned by the big Scripps Co and the bigger ( I )think) Tribine Corp (Newspaper giant, the Chicago Tribune)Do I believe they are morrally above a big phishing scam---certainly not.
I already average over 80 unwanted Emails a day presumeably from outfits which got my address from phishers (suggest you look up the defination ) I do not want more from this outfit.
