Description
On Wednesday, my dogs and I were attacked by off-leash pit bulls, coming from West Rock State Park. The police officers who responded to the scene, fined the dogs' owner but did not impound the dogs because *I* was not bitten (only scratched). The trauma and bites to my own dog were of no consequence. The very next day, the man was in the park with his pit bulls off-leash. He was apparently undeterred by the fine. We took pictures and sent them to the police officers. We have heard from witnesses that these dogs are being bred without a license. We have also heard that they attacked two other dogs. NHPD knows where these dogs live. Let's prevent this from happening again: http://www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/pit_bull_attack_draws_crowd_cop_gunshots/

I too have experienced attacks on my dogs by unleashed pit bulls. A neighbor's unleashed pitbull attacked my min Schnauzer twice (she died after the second attack) and the same dog attacked my basset hound on Thanksgiving Day. The homeowner's insurance company forced the issue and cancelled his coverage- the new insurer refused to insure if the pit bull remained. I suggest you get the name of the dog owner's homeowner insurance and file a claim. If the dog owner is a renter, get in touch with his landlord and file a claim with the landlord's home insurance. In this city, money talks.
